Thanks to all of our wonderful contestants, attendees, and volunteers!
The
"Chili and Charros" 2010
4th Annual San Miguel International Chili Cook-Off
was a HUGE success!
We had a record number of contestents, totalling 104, across the 4 contests (Peoples' Choice for Best Chili, Best CASI Chili, Best Charro Beans, and Best Margarita). We also had a record turnout, making this the most successful fundraising event to date for Centro de Crecimiento. Net profits from the event were more than twice last year's profits!

Below is the list of this year's winners. Congratulations to all the winners!
Keep coming back to our site throughout the year as we will be keeping you posted on the details for "Chili and Charros" 2011! The 2011 cook-off will be the 5th annual event, and we hope to make it even bigger and better!

Peoples' Choice for Best Chili
1st Place: "Los Bandidos" (Don & Marilyn Sibley, they live part time here in San Miguel and part time in Dallas and they own Galeria Pergola in the Instituto) They won 5 nights in an exclusive resort in Palm Springs, with free round trip airfare provided by American Airlines
2d Place: "Rio Laja Res", Bill Taylor & Hugo Geck, both San Miguel residents (they won $2000 pesos)
3d Place: "Spot's Chili Stop" Scott Woodard, who came down from Texas to compete (he won $1,000 pesos)
Best CASI Chili (all of these people were teams that came in from the States to compete)
1st Place: Mark Laurel, from Friendswood, Texas
2d Place: Cynthia Whittenburg, from League City, Texas
3d Place: Kristi Poteet, from Clearlake, Texas
All of these winners get to compete at the 2011 World Championship in Terlingua, Texas in November. This is a BIG deal in the chili world. Only international competitions work this way, and we are now (for the first time ever) one of only 3 sanctioned international events in the world. This means we will have even more cooks from the States next year. The only way a person gets to compete at the World Championship is to earn enough points during the year (they need 12 points). They criss-cross the States all year long competing at regional cook-offs trying to earn a point - and those points are hard to get. But at an International Cook-Off, the top three people get AUTOMATIC qualification to cook at Terlingua.
CASI Best Showmanship
Don Sibly (who gets to go the the 2011 World Championship in Terlingua too!)
Best Charro Beans
1st Place: "Rio Laja Res", Bill Taylor & Hugo Geck (they won 4 nights in a fab beach house on Playa Ropa in Zihuatanejo)
2d Place: "Happy Ass Can be Cookers", Linda Dixon, who lives here (she won $2000 pesos)
3d Place: "Los Bandidos" Marilyn Sibley, same as above, he won $1000 pesos
Best Margarita
"Los Bandidos" again, with "El Manantial" (a new restaurant/bar recently opened here in SMA on Barranca) in 2d place
Best Decorated Booth
"Lazarinni's Kitchen" (these are the Feed the Hungry people here in San Miguel, great people)
