About San Miguel

San Miguel is an old-world style colonial jewel with almost picture-perfect weather.  Nestled high in the Sierra Madre mountains, San Miguel is a favorite spot for American tourists. GoNomad.com calls this seductive little city “one the hippest, busiest, most charming towns in Mexico.”  In 2008, the entire city of San Miguel was designated as an Unesco World Heritage Site, a distinction that few cities in the world can claim. San Miguel offers tourists and residents a host of fun and interesting activities. So much so that many travelers come to visit and never seem to make it home.  More than 10,000 Americans now live in San Miguel.  Whether it’s shopping, golf, hiking, swimming or enjoying live entertainment, you’ll never lack for something to do.  Just walking through the streets is some of the best free entertainment in town, where you’ll find strolling musicians, dancers and other performers practically every night of the year!

San Miguel has an enormous number of restaurants for a town its size, ranging from cheap and authentic Mexican dishes to gourmet French and Italian. All of the restaurants popular with the gringos use purified water and ice and take care with vegetables and fruits. There’s no need to fear getting Montezuma's Revenge, but be careful if eating off the street (tempting, oh so tempting!) or in more off-the-beaten-path places.

Getting here is easy, with several daily flights from Dallas and Houston.   Our official airline, American Airlines, has several daily flights from Dallas and Houston to Leon (which is a 90 minute taxi or shuttle ride to San Miguel).  Continental Airlines also has daily flights to Leon, or to Queretaro (a 45 minute taxi or shuttle ride to San Miguel).  There’s also daily first class bus service from San Antonio or Laredo – just a one day ride.  Once you are here, getting around is easy – there’s no need to rent a car.  The favored mode of transportation is walking, but the city is bustling, so if you don’t want to walk, you can catch a cab anywhere, any time of the day or night.  After you’ve turned in your sign-up sheet, we’ll provide you with more information about how to get from Leon or Queretaro to San Miguel.

And if you’re cooking chili or beans, or making margaritas, don’t worry about finding your basic ingredients.  Check back here later for more information on recommended places to shop.

Make your reservations now and discover the magic of Mexico’s crown jewel city!
